It was a pretty non-descript shot, but it was an important one, when Logan Pearson took a pass on the right-hand baseline early in the second half at UW-Whitewater. He calmly stepped back and put up a shot from about 15 feet out and drained it with 16:56 to play in the game, giving his Pioneers a 42-41 lead. Not only was it a go-ahead shot, but it was also a milestone that has become pretty rare in the WIAC of late, as Pearson reached the 2,000-point mark for his career in a game that the No. 3-ranked Pioneers went on to win, 78-62.
He was the first WIAC player to score 2,000 points at his school since Rich Melzer joined the exclusive club from UW-River Falls back in 2004.
In the win, Platteville clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming WIAC tournament. Pearson finished with 15 points on the night to get to 2,009 for his career.
Pearson is the fifth Division III men's basketball player to join the 2,000-point club this season, following Keene State's Octavio Brito, Trey Minter of Berea, Christian Parker of Mount Union and LeTourneau's Deonte Jackson. Lancaster Bible's Grant Sareyka is on the doorstep, just six points away, and Jahn Hines of Christopher Newport is at 1,984.
Four women's players have reached the 2,000 milestone this season as well: Lyric Grumblatt of Rivier, Mia Castillo of Baruch, Adrianna Vazquez of Nichols, Middlebury's Alexa Mustafaj, Caitlin Scott of Albertus Magnus and Ohio Wesleyan's Kasey Schipfer.
