Odedina and Weems Key Second Half Run in Win Over Goucher

More news about: Lehman

Riding a balanced scoring effort that featured five players in double figures, the Lehman Lightning men's basketball team defeated host Goucher College 70-58 on Tuesday night in the first ever meeting between the two programs.

Junior Jonathan DeJesus led a quintet of double digit scorers with 15 points, while Samuel Batista scored 11 and George Nimmons, Patryk Odedina and Quaseem Weems each notched 10 points a piece.

The play of Odedina and Weems off the bench was especially crucial for the Lightning who saw a 13-point second half lead shrink to 44-41 on Trae Lindsay's layup with 15:18 remaining. Odedina and Weems converted on back to back possessions to briefly push Lehman's lead to a short lived seven points before Goucher freshman Colby Giacubeno canned a three-pointer to pull the Gophers to within 48-44.

Following Victor Garcia's layup which increased Lehman's advantage to 50-44, Weems and Odedina combined to score nine of the game's next 11 points as the Lightning broke open the tight contest. By the time Odedina hit on a jumper with 6:41 to go the Lightning was in possession of a comfortable 17-point margin and on its way to the victory.

Having wrapped up its brief two game trip through Maryland, Lehman returns home to the APEX on Friday night to battle with John Jay College in what is the first of seven consecutive conference games upcoming on the schedule.
