ASHLAND, VA – In celebration of 100 years of basketball at both institutions, Randolph-Macon College and the University of Richmond announced Wednesday that a Men's Basketball Exhibition game will take place between the two schools in Ashland on November 3rd.
Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in R-MC's Crenshaw Gymnasium. A public sale of tickets will begin on Wednesday, October 24th. Tickets are 10 dollars and can be purchased at the main athletics office in Crenshaw Gym from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
"This is an amazing opportunity for our basketball program," said R-MC Head Coach Nathan Davis. "The University of Richmond possesses one of the premier basketball programs in the country. What Coach Mooney has accomplished there speaks for itself. We are honored and excited that he is willing to bring his Spider basketball team to Crenshaw Gymnasium."
Two of the most successful programs in the history of the Commonwealth, R-MC and UR are both celebrating 100 years of basketball in 2012-13. The two programs met 80 times between 1914 and 1983 when R-MC was a member of Division II. The Spiders won 61 of those 80 meetings. R-MC opened its 2008-09 season against Richmond, losing to the Spiders 81-57 at the Robins Center.
Randolph-Macon enters 2012-13 fresh off its third consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. R-MC has won 20 or more games in each of the last five seasons. Richmond has been to the Division I NCAA Tournament in two of the last three seasons, advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2011.
