PITTSBURGH, PA – The Redhawks (7-4) opened 2014 with a 96-87 victory over Westminster (1-10) on Monday night at the Kerr Fitness Center.
The Redhawks outrebounded Westminster 20-9 and assisted on 15 of 16 field goals to jump out to a 44-38 halftime lead. David Jackson led La Roche with 11 first half points and 5 rebounds and Torin Smith hit a trio of three pointers.
La Roche led 81-79 with 2:27 left before going on a 10-0 run to take control of the game. Lionel Perkins sparked the run with a deep three and added a pair of free throws.
David Jackson finished with a career-high 28 points and added 10 rebounds. Andre Flaningan recorded 19 points and 8 rebounds and Neal McKown chipped in 11 points. Smith and Perkins each netted 4 three pointers. Smith had a career-high 14 points while Perkins registered 17 points and 5 assists.
The Redhawks hit 50% (13 of 26) of their shots from behind the arc and assisted on 26 of 30 field goals.
La Roche men's basketball will return to conference action on Saturday when they battle Pitt-Bradford. Tip-off is scheduled for 1PM in Bradford, PA.
