Papadeas Powers Trinity Men's Basketball Over Fisher

Hartford, Conn. – Junior co-captain center George Papadeas (Athens, Greece) made eight of nine shots from the field for 19 points and added six rebounds and a blocked shot to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 69-55 win over the visiting Fisher College Falcons this evening at Oosting Gymnasium.  Trinity ups its record to 14-9 with its third win in four days, while the Falcons fall to 11-16 with their third loss in a row.

Recovering from over a five-minute scoring drought to start the game, Trinity took its went on a 17-3 run late in the first half to go ahead, 33-20, inside the final minute on a put-back by Papadeas.  Fisher scored twice in the final five seconds before the break on a pair of steals and drives by junior Earnest McNeil (Boston, Mass.) and sophomore Tyler Shular (Norwalk, Conn.) to cut the deficit back down to single digits at 33-24.  Papadeas led all scorers with 12 at intermission.

Trinity sophomore guard Jaquann Starks (Hartford, Conn.) opened the second half with a three-pointer for a 36-24 Bantam lead, but the Falcons pulled within four points at 41-37 on a trey by Shular at the 13:50 mark.  An 8-0 Bantam run that ended on a long ball by freshman Chris Turnbull (Ridgewood, N.J.) pushed the home team's advantage back to 12 at 49-37 with 12 minutes left to play, and Trinity maintained at least a 10-point cushion the rest of the way.

Starks and sophomore forward Shay Ajayi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) joined Papadeas in double figures in scoring with 12 and 10 points, respectively, while Starks also had five rebounds and four assists, and Ajayi grabbed six boards.  Bantam first-year forward Ed Oguneko (Brooklyn, N.Y.) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds to go with six points and three blocked shots, while sophomore Rick Naylor (Sudbury, Vt.) contributed seven points, four rebounds, and four assists off the bench.  Trinity made 21 of 25 attempts from the foul line, but just two of 17 tries from beyond the arc.  Shular led all scorers with 26 points and added six boards.  Senior guard Kyle Murphy (Oviedo, Fla.) dished five assists for Fisher, which shot just 32.2 percent from the field.
