ARLINGTON, VA. -- Behind a career-high 29 points from Courtney Cubbage, Gwynedd Mercy scored a 73-72 Atlantic East Conference victory at Marymount on Saturday afternoon.

Cubbage was 13-of-19 from the floor, which also was a personal best. Rich Dunham kicked in 17 points, four steals and a pair of assists. Clayton Wolfe (15 points) was one rebound shy of a double double.

The defense held the Saints to under 35% shooting in the second half while going over 50%. More importantly, Gwynedd held Marymount without a field goal for the final 6:13 of the second half holding Marymount to seven free throws and a three at the buzzer.

The Griffins opened the game on an 11-4 run capped by a Wolfe layup. Gwynedd held the lead until Marymount answered to go ahead, 24-22. However Cubbage would answer scoring on back-to-back possessions for the Griffins to retake the lead. His huge slam would spark a 6-0 run along with a pair of Matt Sommers free throws for a 38-34 lead at halftime.

The second half saw 12 lead changes and six ties. A Wolfe three0point play gave Gwynedd a 60-59 lead with 6:21 remaining. The Griffins would answer the Saints down the stretch with key buckets started by Sommers, draining three for a 63-62 edge. Dunham and Cubbage would answer Saints buckets to take the lead for good 67-66.

The following possession Wolfe would steal and errant pass and go coast to coast to put Gwynedd up three 69-66 with just over two minutes remaining.

Dunham and Wolfe would ice the game on the free throw line connecting on all four one and one attempts to lead 73-69 with just three seconds left.

Brandon Rodgers led Marymount with 19 points, hitting five of the team's nine three-pointers.

The Griffins return back to action on Wednesday traveling to Neumann University for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
