Baruch Defeats Rutgers-Newark (73-67), Team Off to Best Start in Team History

The Baruch College Bearcats stayed unbeaten with an impressive 73-67 non-conference road victory at Rutgers-Newark on Saturday afternoon in Newark, New Jersey.

The 8-0 record is the best start in team history.

The Bearcats shot 48 percent in the first half to build a 37-30 halftime advantage. They continued the momentum in the second half by scoring the first 12 points to comfortably lead 49-30.

They managed to lead by as much as 65-45 with 8:29 left before a late run in the final three minutes by the Scarlet Raiders cut the advantage down to the final score of 73-67.


Francess Henryled the way with 20 points, which included 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Jessica Dulebahad another solid game with 19 points (6-11 fg) and five rebounds.

Lynda Fields(9pts, 4 asst, 3 stl), Iyana Abrams(8pts, 10 rbs, 4 asst, 3 stl) and Sheridan Taylor(9 rbs, 5 asst) all contributed to the victory against an opponent from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).

Sharee Gordon led five players in double-figure scoring for Rutgers-Newark (6-4) with 13 points.

The Bearcats will now go on final exams/holiday break.

They will return to action on Friday, December 28, with a 2:00 pm non-conference home contest against Allegheny College from the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).
