Redlands Women's Basketball blows out PLU in season opener

REDLANDS, Calif. –  The University of Redlands women's basketball team (1-0) opened their 2025-26 season with a dominant 36-point win, 83-47, over Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) Saturday evening.

The first point of the season came on a Leila Hosn free throw. AJ Wick then converted on a three-point play that began a 12-0 Redlands run. During the run Andrea Perkins made two threes and Colbi Zorich scored in the paint after her own offensive rebound.

After leading by as many as 11, the Bulldogs were only ahead by four, 13-9, with 2:13 remaining in the first quarter. A pair of Wick jumpers, though, stretched the lead to eight, 17-9, after 10 minutes.

Teagan McIlroy began the second with six points in 51 seconds. At the 6:01 mark Carly Hicks assisted Olivia McIntyre for the first two points of a 7-0 run that included a Kayden Sanders three to cap the run up 17, 34-17. At the half Redlands led by 14, 36-22.

In the first five minutes of the third, the Bulldog defense allowed only seven points while scoring 13 to claim their first 20-point lead, 49-29. Their largest lead of the game came after McIlroy found Alex Facelo for a three with only seven seconds on the clock to send them into the fourth quarter up 31, 66-35.

With the game in hand the Bulldogs turned to their bench in the fourth. McIntyre had seven points and five rebounds. Libby Oxciano had five points, three rebounds, and two assists with a perfect shooting line and no turnovers.

Preseason All-American Wick had 15 points, 17 rebounds, six assists, two steals, and two blocks. Perkins was the lone other Bulldog in double figures with 10 points.

Redlands hosts the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor next Saturday, November 15 at 5:00 p.m.
