No. 17 Women’s Basketball Stays Hot with Win Over Penn State Behrend (Pa.)

BEREA, Ohio - The No. 17 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace women's basketball team beat Penn State Behrend (Pa.) by a score of 69-58 inside Ursprung Gymnasium.

The Yellow Jackets earned their eighth-straight win in their last non-conference game of the season. BW took the lead in the first seconds and held it throughout the entire game.

BW Leaders (11-2)

  • Senior guard Alyssa Miller (New Philadelphia) led the Yellow Jackets in points and blocks with 13 and two
  • Senior guard Leah Riley (Cincinnati/Sycamore) added 12 points and a team-high four assists
  • Senior forward Brooke Thompson (Maineville/Little Miami) grabbed a game-high twelve rebounds
  • Senior forward Kayla Jones (Grove City) led BW with four steals to go along with nine points, seven rebounds, and three assists
  • Junior guard Laura McCoy (Newton Falls/Garrettsville Garfield) scored 10 points

Penn State Behrend (Pa.) Leaders (8-5)

  • Sophomore forward Alaina Fabin scored a game-high 19 points and corralled a team-high seven rebounds
  • Senior guard Morgan Altavilla recorded a game-high four blocks and a team-high three assists to go along with 14 points

1st Quarter (BW 18-12)

  • Thompson layup assisted by McCoy kicked off the scoring
  • BW opened the game on an 11-0 run
  • The Lions responded with an 8-0 run to cut the Yellow Jacket lead to four
  • Jones had two steals

2nd Quarter (BW 33-26)

  • A flagrant foul by the Lions midway into the quarter sparked a 6-0 run for the Brown and Gold, expanding their lead to eight
  • Riley knocked down two free throws to close out the half
  • Jones and sophomore guard Elise Champagne (Columbia Station/Columbia) each racked up two steals
  • The Yellow Jackets played well in transition, scoring 12 first-half fastbreak points

3rd Quarter (BW 51-38)
