BEREA, Ohio. - The No. 8 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace women's basketball team notched their 20th win of the year as they defeated Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Capital University by a final score of 63-49 inside the Ursprung Gymnasium. 

Coming out of halftime, BW (20-2, 13-0 OAC) did not look back and focused on getting stops. On the offensive end, they outscored Capital 36-27. Throughout the game, BW was not making it easy for the Comets to score. The Yellow Jackets held their opponent to a 29.7 field goal percentage on 64 attempts from the field. 

BW Leaders 

  • Yellow Jacket Women's Athlete of the Month Laura McCoy (Newtown Falls /Garrettsville Garfield) finished with a team-high 13 points, four rebounds, one assist, two steals, and one block 
  • Senior forward Alyssa Miller (New Philadelphia) had a near double-double with nine points, a team-high eight rebounds, a game-high three blocks, and one steal 
  • Senior guard Leah Riley (Cincinnati/Sycamore) recorded nine points, four rebounds, and two assists 
  • Junior guard Ava Wilkerson (West Mansfield / Marysville) tallied nine points, two rebounds, and one assist 


Capital Leaders 

  • Senior forward Samaree Perkins recorded a double-double with a game-high 21 points and 15 rebounds, to go along with her game-high three steals 
  • Junior guard Kendall Spreen tallied nine points on three made three-pointers 
  • Freshman guard Kyah Ewing had five points, three rebounds, and one assist 


1st Quarter (BW 13-9) 

  • BW opened the scoring with an 8-0 run by McCoy and Badylak in which they both hit a three-pointer  
  • McCoy led all scorers with seven points
  • The Brown and Gold out-rebounded Capital on the glass 13-11 
  • BW connected on two three-pointers compared to Capital's none 


2nd Quarter (BW 27-22) 

  • Junior guard Ava Wilkerson (West Mansfield / Marysville) kicked off the scoring with a layup in the opening minute
  • The Comets went on a 6-0 run from the 5:45 to 5:14 mark to make the score 19-17 BW 
  • Yellow Jackets' 8-0 run is capped off by a deep-three by junior guard Taylor Bass (Strongsville) to make the score 27-17 BW with 0:36 left 
  • The Brown and Gold outrebounded Capital on the glass 10-7
  • The Comets connected on two three-pointers compared to BW's one 


3rd Quarter (BW 41-31) 

  • Wilkerson hit from deep to open the scoring in the opening minute 
  • The Brown and Gold outrebounded Capital on the glass 15-8 
  • BW held the Comets to three makes on nineteen attempts from the field 


 4th Quarter (BW 63-43) 

  • Perkins connected on a layup in the opening minute to kick off the Comets' scoring 
  • BW went on a 17-6 run in the opening 4:33 to make the score 58-39 
  • Riley led BW with eight points in the period 
  • The Comets outrebounded the Yellow Jackets on the glass 11-9
